HISTORY SAMOVARS
For centuries, Tula craftsmen have forged weapons and made samovars. These are the traditional crafts of the Tula region as are Tula gingerbread, Belev lace, pasta and more. Everyone knows that the Tula samovar is a device for boiling water. The word samovar comes from Sam-brews. The Russian samovar could not have appeared in any other country as tea could have only been introduced to Russia from China. In China there is a device similar to the Tula samovar and consists of an ash-pit and a pipe. However, the present samovar, a teapot, is no longer found as tea is now brewed like coffee. |
